Antonia Houben is contemporary artist whose painting practice explores typical scenes of everyday life through a candid and sometimes nostalgic lens. Using photography as a starting point, the resulting images become source material for Houben’s realist paintings with an enhanced and vibrant colour palette. Figures appear, often as bit-players, in interior and landscape settings which often take unexpected, light-hearted & witty elements as their focus. Houben intends to reflect the moments captured on camera versus the moments emotionally experienced as another dimension. In today's fast-paced world, there are so many of these moments missed, instead of distraction, she focuses on reflection. Essentially, Houben uses art as the mechanism to explore the sharing of emotions and experiences, ones of reflection and introspection.

Born and based in Sydney, Houben studied a Bachelor of Fine Art at the National Art School and completed her degree in 2017.
